Weekend Scrambles
Ben Nevis Classics

Two days’ scrambling in one of the most famous climbing and mountaineering districts in the world. The course begins with a warm up scramble in Glen Coe, followed on the second day by an ascent of Ben Nevis via a route on its 1500ft North Face.

Course Outline
We will be walking and scrambling for 7-9 hours each day. Some of the scrambling will be exposed and will include the use of a rope. Below is an example of a typical course, but this may be adapted according to weather conditions.

Day 1: Sron na Lairig to Bidean Nam Bian
Depart Edinburgh 8.30 am for Glencoe and Bidean Nam Bian - an extensive massif providing plenty of scrambling opportunities. Sron Na Lairig is an exciting scramble which allow us to ascend Bidean’s munro. It is around 500ft high and involves the crossing of an exposed drawbridge of rock. Once the summit has been gained we will descend to the Glen via the Lost Valley .

Day 2: Tower Ridge or Ledge Route to Ben Nevis
We aim to climb Ben Nevis the second day via one of the spectacular 1500ft high North Face routes, Ledge Route or Tower Ridge, which emerge at the summit trig point. These scrambles go through continually interesting and exposed rock scenery and are surrounded by some of the most famous rock and ice climbs in the world.

Solitude is almost guaranteed on this side of the mountain and so provide the most satisfying way to the summit. Following our descent we return to Edinburgh.

Your Guide
Your weekend of scrambling will be guided and run by Euan Whittaker, a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. Euan has been climbing, walking and skiing for over 14 years in Britain , Europe and Scandinavia and has been instructing and guiding for over 7 years.

The ratio for this course is one instructor to three clients. The low ratio allows us to provide a quality service aimed at providing the individual with the safest and best experience possible.

Participants should bring their own hill walking equipment (see kit list).

I was very happy with the routes both days...exactly the level of height and challenge I had hoped for.
