Weekend Scrambles
Skye and The Inaccessible Pinnacle
The Black Cuillin of Skye offer the most challenging and rewarding mountaineering in Britain . The ridge itself contains 20 summits and reaching the summit of nearly all of these peaks requires spectacular scrambling in an environment unparalleled anywhere else in the country. This 3 day trip aims to climb several of these summits, including the super exposed Inaccessible Pinnacle.
Course Outline
We will be walking and scrambling for 6-9 hours each day. The trip will also include some abseiling. Some of the scrambling will be exposed and will include the use of a rope. Below is an example of a typical course but this may be adapted according to weather conditions.

Day 1: Familiarisation at Local Crag
Depart Edinburgh and travel to crag en-route to Skye. During Day 1 we will aim to familiarise clients not only with harnesses, helmets and ropes but also the skill of abseiling. This skill will be required to descent from the summit of the Inaccessible Pinnacle. Following this, we will travel to our accommodation in Skye.

Day 2: Sgurr Nan Gillean and Am Bastier
The first day’s scrambling will take in the two most northerly munros of the Cuillin Ridge, Sgurr Nan Gillean and Am Bastier. After an easy walk to the last 100’ of Sgurr Nan Gillean, entertaining and exposed scrambling begins and continues all the way over the summit of Am Bastier. These peaks serve as an exciting warm-up for the next day.

Day 3: The Inaccessible Pinnacle
Today we aim to climb the Inaccessible Pinnacle of Skye. This pinnacle is very famous in British mountaineering circles and the jewel in the crown of the Cuillin Ridge. The ascent involves scrambling up a knife edge arête in a sensational position before a breathtaking abseil off the other side. The top of the pinnacle offers a magnificent viewpoint from which to see the whole Cuillin Ridge, including yesterday’s peaks Sgurr Nan Gillean and Am Bastier. After a superb day on these magnificent peaks we return to Edinburgh in the evening.
