You might not pick Scotland as your first choice of destination when looking for a beautiful beach holiday, but this would be your first mistake, as this delightful part of the world actually has some incredible stretches of sand just waiting to be discovered – and you really are missing out if you’ve never gone north of the border to see what can be found in this regard.
The Outer Hebrides has a huge number of beaches for the discerning holidaymaker, so spend some time investigating the options to help you decide where to go first.
One of the most popular is Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris, with silvery-white sands, turquoise waters, sand dunes and mountains in the distance. Keep your eyes well peeled for sea eagles, otters, seals and dolphins here.
Or what about Huisinis Beach, one of the most beautiful to be found anywhere in the UK. If you’re keen to be as active as you can while away, this would be a great choice, since you can indulge in everything from surfing and kayaking to swimming, fishing and sailing here. It’s also dog-friendly if you have four-legged holidaymakers with you, as well.
Bosta Beach, meanwhile, you’ll find in the north-west corner of Great Bernera. If you’re keen to discover some local history while on your beach trip, this could be a good choice as it’s also home to a restored Iron Age house, part of a settlement that was revealed in 1993 after gales blew some of the dunes away and exposed dwellings buried beneath the sand.
