From taking hiking trips around the local countryside to arranging walking tours around the Shetland Isles, having nature walks with your family can be fun, healthy and incredibly rewarding, especially as springtime arrives.
It’s a great activity to encourage your children to take up to. Hiking stimulates the imagination, lets them explore and allows them to have fun in an almost endless playground.
However, it’s important to make sure they are comfortable the entire time, so here are some tips for keeping your kids happy during hiking trips.
Boot Up
Tired feet are the bane of many hikers, and the last thing you want to happen is a walk be ruined by complaints of sore feet.
Make sure to get a sturdy pair of hiking shoes for your little ones. Ensure they are breathable, flexible at the toe and have a wide sole.
Hiking socks can also help keep the blood flowing and keep feet dry if they sweat in the warm weather.
Keep A First Aid Kit
Outdoor adventures can sometimes have little accidents, and so a first aid kit is a must to stop your little ones from feeling too sore.
Make sure when you stock a hiking first aid kit to include some moleskin to help make shoes more comfortable and help prevent blisters from hurting too much.
Wear Suncream
Suncream is important to protect your skin regardless of the weather, but given that you are likely to be hiking on sunny days, it is vital to protect your skin as much as possible.
Choose a high factor suncream with some level of water resistance to avoid it sweating off.
As well as this, make sure you are all wearing a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes and off the back of your neck.
