With the world gradually opening up once again, we can all start thinking about our next trips away – and walking holidays in Scotland could be just what you all need to blow those pandemic cobwebs away.
A blast of fresh air is an incredible tonic and Scotland is a wonderful place to visit, no matter what time of year you decide to travel in. But it’s not just the fresh air that brings people north of the border time and time again – the chance to spot some beautiful flora and fauna is also a huge draw.
Where wildlife is concerned, there’s an abundance to be found here and you’re sure to fall in love with Scotland even more than you already have. Puffins, for example, can be found all over the place, including the isles of Mull and Staffa, as well as Shetland, with the best times to spot them between March and May.
One of the most iconic Scottish animals is the red deer, which can be found in nearly every single region in the country. You’re most likely to see these beautiful animals between September and November.
Red squirrels can also be found in Scotland’s forest and woodlands, but they’re rather elusive and smaller than their grey counterparts, so keep your eyes well peeled – and tread quietly as you explore the Scottish countryside between December and January, the best time of year to see them.
And then there are beautiful grey seals, very common inhabitants of Scottish coastlines. If you’re very lucky and on holiday during the autumn, you may well see some grey seal pups, as well!
