Walkabout Scotland
Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis Weekend

Summary
Challenge yourself with Walkabout Scotland's Ben Nevis weekend: An ascent of Scotland and the UK's highest mountain followed by one of the most beautiful peaks anywhere.
Detailed Itinerary
Friday: Travel to Glencoe or Fort William - Departing Edinbirgh city centre at 6pm, we drive up to our accommodation at Glencoe or Fort William stopping for dinner en route.

Nevis
Saturday: Ben Nevis - We usually walk the Pony Track route starting from Ben Nevis visitor centre, the going is straightforward but can be physically demanding. The start is at sea level so every foot of ascent is hard won. Snow can lie on the upper slopes even well into Summer and the weather can be challenging at any time.
It's a great sense of achievement reaching the summit.
After the descent we often finish with a pint in the Ben Nevis Inn and then head into lively Fort William for a well-earned meal.
(7 hours, 1445m, 4450ft ascent/descent 16km, 10 miles, good trail, steps and rocks in places)

Buachaille
Sunday: Buachaille Etive Mhor- Whilst Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland, the Buachaille is one of the most beautiful and iconic. The ascent is steeper than the previous day but the distance covered is shorter and the starting altitude is higher. The view from the summit, looking out over Rannoch Moor to the south is true "Edge of the World" moment.
(5 hours, 750m, 2150ft ascent, 6km/4 miles, ,steep, rough ground and scrambling in places)
We then travel back to Edinburgh in time for evening flights and trains if required.

Accommodation and Meals
Friday meals are included but Saturday evening meals are not included in the tour, but the guide will arrange these in a local inn or restaurant. Sometimes, our guest houses offer a set menu, all with excellent home cooked food, restaurants will provide a wider choice of courses. Vegetarians will always be catered for and other specific dietary requirements can normally be catered for if we know in advance. At all the places we visit we make a special effort to ensure that your evening meals are a highlight of the trip, with excellent food on offer and a relaxed and welcoming ambiance.
Grading of Walks
The walking throughout this tour we class as “Challenging” – suitable for people of good fitness who enjoy walking or the outdoors but who needn’t necessarily have any previous hiking experience. Ben Nevis is 1344m high starting at sea level, the rough footpath can cause sore knees and ankles so we advise using poles. Please see our full itinerary above - if you have any questions, please contact us before booking.
